Melody Bikini by Sirens Swimwear

In February, Mr Swish and I went on holiday to Thailand. A few months before going I realised that I didn’t have a nice bathing suit to wear. Knowing how much retro swimwear costs, I was pretty sure that I would either end up with something a bit average, or I would splurge, which I wasn’t keen to do. As if by magic an advert on Instagram appeared showing some really beautiful swimming costumes. Not only that, but they were on sale.

The company was an Australian brand called Sirens Swimwear which I hadn’t heard of before. I was pleasantly surprised when I found that I liked almost all of their designs. Not only were they retro looking, but they also appeared to be well designed and flattering for curvier bodies.

I chose two styles, the Melody bikini in snow leopard and black and the Marilyn swim dress in summer sky stripes. I will review the Marilyn swim dress in a separate post.

I selected the Melody biki because of its high waist ruched bottoms. I am proud of my body but in all honestly, my tummy has been a bit of a problem area for me since my late teens. I just feel more comfortabel with it covered up, especially on the beach.

Here is a rare photo of me in the sun (I usually hide from the sun like a vampire).

The bikini top is incredibly supportive and comfortable and I certainly didn’t have any neck ache after wearing it. I have had issues with halternecks in the past, which has annoyed me as I really don’t have that big a bust. I also really like the placement of the ruched leopard print fabric with the smooth black fabric at the top of the cup. The molded cups also made my breasts look GREAT from where I was standing. Just saying.

The bottoms are also great. I really love retro swimsuits as they are so different from modern shapes. I have a big bum and hips, as well as a tummy, so I really don’t want to walk around with everything hanging out! These bottoms just keep everything in place and make me feel confident enough to walk around the beach without putting on a dress. Again, the placement of the patterned fabric and plain fabric is really pretty and very flattering.

I bought the size 16 for both the top and the bottom, and both fit me perfectly. I would say that this swimsuit is true to size.

In terms of price, this bikini was very reasonable. I paid $99 for the set and went through their AfterPay option, which meant that I could pay it off over 2 months which was perfect when I was trying to save for our holiday.

I am really happy with this swimming costume, and although I’m sure it will last me for years I would like to buy some more for next summer.
